Industrial activities cause environmental problems. The industrial sector is responsible amongst other things for the emission of pollutants into the air, water and soil. In addition this sector generates a lot of waste.
The environmental pressure by industry is described via 6 industrial sub-sectors.
These sub-sectors are each given a short name, which naturally does not cover the full content. The grouping of the various activities in the sub-sectors is shown in the table below, together with the corresponding NACE-BEL-codes and the short name:
